Nice article on tech/aesthetic considerations at DV Magazine…

LA Ink article
Here’s an article I enjoyed…see what you think. I liked the description of solutions for shooting under the lighting conditions and then read how the crew solved obstacles they faced with achieving a certain “look” (related to what we discussed in class last week. According to the article, they were successful despite not having the room to maneuver with camera and zoomed-in lenses (hint: they cheated creatively) LA Ink article (DV Magazine) (Link:http://www.dv.com/features/features_item.php?articleId=196603713)

Ect Express 24/48 Lighting Board manual here (as well)

ETC Express 24/48 Lighting board

In  an effort to streamline the process and get the info out easily to interested students, I put the manual for the lighting board we use in Studio A up on the same site referenced below. Link is here (http://homepage.mac.com/mishavideo/FileSharing1.html)

CG: Chyron Tutorial files now available for download here

 Lyric

Hi All, In the past, I’ve had some really good PowerPoint files up here for download for using and understanding the Chyron Character Generator MicroX . Turns out downloading them with a 3-party program (Pando) was difficult for some and ultimately the downloads expired over time. Thus, you can now download those tutorials at a different place – my dot mac site here (Link: http://homepage.mac.com/mishavideo/FileSharing1.html). Be aware that the files are “zipped” and inside are Microsoft PowerPoint files. To view these and learn from them you’ll need to either a) have PowerPoint installed on your computer or should b) install a PowerPoint viewer (available here free). Alternatively, you can use a “PDF” version of these files that I’ve made available at the same site (here’s a download link to a “PDF” viewer if you need it). I hope to add a number of good tutorial files as time allows…. Cheers, Misha

Video StudentGuy (blog link…)

Meet Paul Eisen, the “Video StudentGuy“. As the name states, the author of this blog is a student of video production somewhere in the US (let me know if you find an “about me section” on this person). In any case, he makes a great read/listen for those interested in video and headed down related paths. Also, he’s setting clear goals for himself, making a document of their learning experience, generating know-how as they produce sporadic audio podcasts and leaving a trail of knowledge they gained behind.  Check it out: http://videostudentguy.libsyn.com/

Rental Express’s Rate Card

…so as mentioned in class if you are end up in the situation where it’s up/down to you to source gear for a video or audio production there are a number of places to go in the City and outside. My experience has been almost only with VER and with Rental Express. There are certainly a few more such as Film Arts Foundation and FirstCamera (I’d guess around another 5 in the City and another 15 in all of the Bay Area). Anyway, the first two I can recommend, but I’m sure the others wouldn’t be around if they were shoddy. Poke around. Get an idea of what’s out there and a what price? Ask yourself why do these things cost this amount? Who uses them? How much do they make? What do they know? (And then find and intern  with them, etc., etc. )Cheers, Misha
